Prepare Your Lawn and Garden for Fall

Aug 12, 2021

August can often be the hottest time of the year yet it marks the transition into the cooler months of Fall. You’ll want to take steps now to help ensure a healthy lawn and landscaping that will yield more beauty when it warms up again in Spring. Be sure to consider the temperature and try to work during the coolest parts of the day, in early morning or late evening, allowing for enough sunlight to accomplish your goals.

Keep Weeding

Fall is a great time to apply weed killer to areas of your lawn and landscaping that are being overrun by crabgrass, dandelions, and other weeds. You can choose between a liquid or granular application.

 Apply Fertilizer

The cooler weather of Fall provides the perfect chance for parched grass to regain its strength. Help it along by applying fertilizer to fortify it against the winter months ahead. This should ideally be done a few weeks before the ground freezes so you’ll need to plan accordingly.

Seed

Summer heat can take its toll on your lawn resulting in bare spots at various points in the yard. Now is the time to plant seeds for growth. This should be done before it gets too cold.

Keep Grass Mowed

It’s important to keep your lawn mowed and watered right up until the grass goes dormant when the weather gets cold. You’ll want to keep your lawn mower blades in a low setting so that the grass roots still get the sunlight they need.
